Summary
The technician is a certified professional expected to provide a variety of complex technical functions that requires the application of an extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy practices. The employee assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care and timely customer service in accordance with the mission, vision and goals of Wyoming Health Care Clinic.

Responsibilities
Assignments involve the preparation, review, dispensing, control of medication, and other pharmaceutical products to patients. The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, involving standing for prolonged period of time, lifting/carrying of pharmaceutical supplies weighing up to 44 lbs., pushing and pulling of large medication carts, and bending/stooping. The employee is responsible for assuring facility compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, directives, policies and procedures applying to the dispensing, storage, transfer, inventory and accountability of controlled substances, hazardous medications, and non-hazardous medications.
Work Schedule: Hours rotate between 7:30apm-4:30pm Monday thru Friday and 9:30am-6:00pm Monday thru Friday. Hours may be rotated or extended based on the needs of the Medical Center and our Veterans. Financial Disclosure Report:Not required

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:- U.S. citizenship.Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education or Experience.A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. Certification.Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required. Physical Standards. English Langauge.Pharmacy technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a.
Grade Determinations: GS-6 Pharmacy Technician Experience.One year experience at the next lower grade level. Employees at this grade level serve as staff pharmacy technicians receiving little guidance from more experienced staff members for more complex patients and procedures, and require minimal supervision.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.In addition the applicant must demonstrate the KSAs listed below: 1. Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate action. 2. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment. 3. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents. 4. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products. 5. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts. 6. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders.

Physical Requirements:Pharmacy Technician; Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; light lifting, under 15 pounds; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; light carrying, under 15 pounds; pushing (2 hours); reaching above shoulder, use of fingers; both hands required; walking (3 hours); standing (3 hours); kneeling (1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4;far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability.
