These are full-time, temporary positions in Berrien County.
Duration of job is 06/25/2015 - 10/15/2015. Must be available to work for the entire period.
Workers will perform general farm labor and hand harvest blueberries, cucumbers, cantaloupes, roma tomatoes, grape tomatoes, round tomatoes and apples.
Required: Two (2) months verifiable experience in vegetable hand harvest or tree fruit harvest.
Licensed housing will be provided without cost to workers who cannot reasonably return to their permanent residence at the end of the work day.
All necessary tools, supplies or equipment will be provided by the employer at no cost to the worker.
Hand Harvesting: Workers will be assigned a row and must stay on that row from start to finish. Workers are to help others finish their rows as instructed by supervisor. Workers will pick according to grade, color, shape, size and degree of maturity. Care must be exercised at all times to prevent bruising, denting, skinning, etc. of fruit and vegetables or breaking stems or branches. Depending on the crop, workers will lift and carry harvest bags or containers and place the contents into larger bins. Workers will pick apples while standing on the ground and higher branches while standing on a 5-16 foot ladder.
Farm Labor: General labor including hoeing, pulling weeds, staking plants, transplanting, field clean-up, plastic mulch clean-up and picking up garbage around orchard and vegetable fields. For apples, workers will hand-thin trees and care for young non-producing fruit trees including weeding, hoeing, trunk painting, hand fertilizing and growth selection by hand and clipping.
