Job Description
Fincantieri Marinette Marine, a Fincantieri Marine Group Company, is a progressive shipyard specializing in building ships for the United States Navy. We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Shock Engineer at our Marinette, Wisconsin location.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Engineer -- Shock's purpose is to solve technical problems, develop applicable documentation, and supervise all assigned resources in support of shock qualification for applicable shipbuilding programs. The Senior Engineer - Shock assists the Shock Project Engineer and Project Engineering Manager in determining the technical requirements of the project, defining resource requirements to achieve schedule and budget commitments, and solving technical issues as they arise within the field of competence. The Senior Engineer - Shock will also support noise and vibration qualification programs as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Work independently in solving technical issues
Support requirements definition for shipboard equipment via purchase technical specifications, sourcing, and procurement support
Provide support to functional and detail design teams
Calculate envelopes for isolated equipment
Develop and Calculate Wobble drawing for resilient mounted equipment in support of the Structural Group.
Support production on installation issues related to shock as well as ongoing ship shock inspections
Perform, supervise, manage shock qualification and analysis of smaller items (foundations, non-testable items, pipe/cable hangers, etc.)
Manage shock qualification and analysis of large foundations including shock extensions (main engine, gas turbine, reduction gear, etc.)
Plan, estimate, schedule and monitor assigned work and the work of assigned resources.
Track and report progress to budget and schedule commitments
Supervise assigned resources
Facilitate communications of issues and solutions throughout MMC
Prepare, check and issue professional quality deliverables
Interpret contract requirements
Develop contract change documents to support the project needs
May be required to define, track and control subcontractor activities
Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Engineer - Shock may directly supervises 1 to 5 employees and indirectly supervise assigned (matrixed) engineering resources responsible for project completion. Supervisory responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The Senior Engineer also demonstrates leadership skills that align with the mission, vision, and values of the Company
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 6 years of experience of increasing responsibility in a shock related engineering field.
This requirement can also be met with an Associate's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 8 years of experience of increasing responsibility in a shock related engineering field, or a High School Diploma or GED and 9 years of experience of increasing responsibility in a shock related engineering field.
Supervisory experience desired.
Six Sigma or LEAN training desired.
SKILLS
Must have technical skills in high impact mechanical shock and its application to ship design and equipment, proven by verifiable and specific work experience, technical publication, or patent issue.
Must have a working knowledge of MIL-S-901 as well as standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, the associated regulatory agencies, and the review & approval process.
Must have current computer skills relevant to the field of competence.
Must have ability to work within schedule and budget restraints.
Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.
Must be able to obtain, through the company a clearance for document classification (SECRET)
A basic Earned Value Management System competency is a bonus
