_Job Purpose___
The Client Software Administrator I is responsible for the desktop environment, including the deployment/distribution of all software, patches, service packs, and Operating System upgrades, while maintaining the computing image to ensure the security and stability of the desktop environment.
_ _ _Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities_ * Under direct supervision, provides 2nd-level technical support and consultation for software and operating systems. * Executes advanced troubleshooting techniques. * Provides Tier 1 & 2 support staff with the tools necessary to support the desktop environment. * Identifies and resolves moderately complex systems problems. * Installs and maintains Operating Systems and Virtual Machines. * Conducts the implementation of systems software. * Executes and manages scripts to maintain the desktop infrastructure environment. * Deploys Active Directory Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and associated custom GPO templates for the desktop environment. * Follows and enforces organizational IT security policies and processes, including change management processes. * Ensures that desktop environment patch management is kept current. * Monitors desktop environment to ensure availability and stability.
Other duties
- Provides training to users and/or support staff on new/updated systems as needed.
- Performs other special projects or duties as assigned.
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) * Ability to train to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for the desktop/application environment. * Knowledge of Microsoft Windows configuration, installation, maintenance, support and troubleshooting. * Knowledge of virtualization technologies including resource allocation in VMware ESXi hypervisor and Microsoft Hyper-V. * Must be aware of industry standards; available technologies; and security and system best practices.
Education and Experience Required
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 0 – 3 years of experience in an IT environment.
- 0 – 3 years of experience Microsoft Windows environments.
- Experience with the following platforms and systems preferred:
- Microsoft Operating Systems
- VMware ESXi
- Microsoft Hyper-V and High Performance Computing (HPC)
- BMC Client Management, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, or equivalent systems
- Microsoft App-V or VMware ThinApp
- Profile management software such as AppSense, Citrix Profile Management or VMware Persona Management
