Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient using the nursing process; provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care; responds to emergent situations according to established procedures; recognizes and participates in own continuing education.PROGRAM DETAILS:To remain active in the Extern role, you must:Be actively enrolled in a nursing programSuccessfully complete each courseProvide transcripts to Nurse Manager after each courseProvide a copy of your plan of work to your Nurse ManagerIf at any point the Extern does not meet their academic institution’s standards of continued enrollment in the school of nursing classes, their employment as an extern will be rescinded.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:High School Diploma or EquivalentEnrolled in an accredited school of nursingCompletion of two (2) clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting)Meet or exceed the Henry Ford core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviorsMust be self-directed; flexible and committed to the team concept; demonstrate teamwork, initiative and willingness to learn; possess interpersonal skills and communication skills; be willing to instruct others and be open to learning new experiencesCERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:Current BLS or obtained during Patient Care OrientationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Enrollment in an accredited school of nursing (BSN program)
