Position Title: Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
General Summary:
The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is responsible for implementing the radiation safety in all divisions and locations where ionizing radiation is used or stored at Beaumont Hospitals (Royal Oak, Troy, Grosse Pointe). The RSO ensures that radiation safety activities are being performed in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory requirements in the daily operation of the licensee's byproduct material program. The RSO has sufficient authority, organizational freedom, and management prerogative to identify radiation safety problems, initiate, recommend, or provide corrective actions and verify implementation of corrective actions.
Responsibilities include: Quality Assurance, Process Improvement, Hazardous Materials Management, Emergency Preparedness, Radiation Badge Monitoring, Education/Training, and Radiation Safety Committee attendance.
Requirements:
Master's degree in Medical Physics or equivalent, certification by a specialty board whose certification process has been recognized by the NRC or an Agreement State and approval by the NRC to be listed as the Radiation Safety Officer for Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe.
Minimum 3-5 years Radiation Safety Officer experience. Working experience with the NRC State FDA, FAA and DOT regulations for Radiation Safety. High level of effective communication, verbal, written, computer and mathematical skills as well as the ability to exercise independent judgment required.
Must possess effective and professional people skills to interact with patients, physicians, physicists, technologists, internal and external support staff in addition to state and federal regulatory staff.
