JOB SUMMARY
Estimates marketable content of logs or pulpwood by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Load Sawmill deck with correct logs
- Measures dimensions of each log or entire loads of pulpwood
- Determines total board feet, cordage or other wood unit
- Inspects logs or pulpwood for rot, knots and other defects, deducts estimated waste from total volume, and records results.
- Identifies logs of substandard or special grade for return to shipper or transfer to other processes.
- Assist with unloading, scaling trucks, moving night drops
- Tends decks to Sawmill or Grade Mill
- Operate machine in a safe manner
- Alert mechanic if problems occur immediately
- Keep machine clean inside and out

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILL
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current Industrial Operator Permit
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing duties of this job, employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specification vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
