Job Title: Groundskeeper
Reports To: Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor

Work Schedule: Part-time (30-32 hours per week) - Seasonal

Pay Scale: $14.33/hour
JOB SUMMARY
The Groundskeeper performs landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the facility’s grounds for the District and reports to the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
The following are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by a person in this position. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties that may be performed by such a person.
- Mows lawns, trims weeds, and rakes leaves as assigned.
- Gather and remove grass clippings, leaves, branches, and other litter and dispose of them properly.
- Empties outdoor trash and recycling containers.
- Trims bushes, shrubs, and hedges.
- Prepares soil and plants flowers, bushes, hedges, or shrubs.
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, or other grounds features.
- Plants trees and prunes them when necessary.
- Cuts and removes trees as needed.
- Water lawns, trees, or plants, using sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
- Applies fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides as directed.
- Performs routine maintenance on power equipment.
- Sets up and removes sporting equipment, prepares sports playing fields.
- Clears and washes bleachers and other athletic areas.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Adhere to all policies of the District.
- Follow local, state, and OSHA regulations;
- Maintain a clean and safe work area;
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisor, administrators, and school community members;
- Promptly return phone calls and answer emails;
- Participate in appropriate professional activities/training when necessary;
- Performs all other related duties assigned by Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- 18 years of age;
- High school diploma or GED required;
- Driver license;
- Detail oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task;
- Ability to operate various types of power equipment including lawnmowers, tractors, chain saws, trailers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
- Extensive knowledge of landscaping techniques and processes.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Previous experience in groundskeeping preferred;
- Possess or willing to acquire an appropriate Commercial Pesticide Applicator License;
- Possess a willingness to learn new job skills, new processes, technology, or techniques.

Duties performed typically in, but not limited to the maintenance department and in schools throughout the District:
- Prolonged periods walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling.
- Must be physically able to operate power equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth);
- Able to carry on a normal conversation and communicate by telephone or portable radio;
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and administrative guidelines on the evaluation of personnel.
