Hours: Typical working hours range from 4:00am – 2:00pm
Summary/Objective: This position is responsible for organizing and guiding team in daily tasks. Shift leads work with the team in providing top-notch hospitality to our guests, assisting them in selecting, packing and ringing up their donuts, beverages and merchandise. Shift Leads work with team to stock and maintain organization and cleanliness of donut display case, coffee area, customer service area, pans, speed racks, etc. Works with team on maintenance and cleanliness of equipment, including: coffee brewer, coffee grinder, POS system, etc. Guides and assists team members to fulfill orders for wholesale, café and catering customers. Maintains accurate inventories (FIFO). Trains and assists new team members to perform typical “Café Associate” duties.
Key Results Area #1: Lead and Organize
- Maintains clear and open communication with Café Associate Team and Café Manager in evaluating business and customer needs
- Assists Café Associates in finding coverage for shifts missed (may cover shifts themselves if unable to find other solutions)
- Provides guidance toward daily order preparation goals and quality standards, while working cooperatively with other café team members
- Works cooperatively with management or Bakery team to develop daily production schedule, order list and organize order forms for accurate and efficient packing
Key Results Area #2: Hospitality
- Provides hospitality to guests, including serving donuts, coffee / beverages and merchandise to customers, ringing up transactions and making guest feel welcome and appreciated, while maintaining calm and friendly demeanor
- Coordinates with café team throughout shift to ensure highest level of hospitality is being offered to guests
Key Results Area #3: Prepare, Verify Accuracy and Reconcile Orders
- Works with Café Manager to facilitate and / or place custom orders with 100% accuracy
- Prepares (accurately and efficiently) orders for wholesale, café and catering customers
- Verifies and reconciles orders prepared to ensure they are filled accurately
- Makes adjustments to wholesale or café orders based on any shortages or overages in daily production
- Maintains open communication with café manager to ensure production numbers and order numbers have been met and appropriate adjustments have been made, where needed
Key Results Area #4: Cleaning, Maintenance and Inventory Management
- Performs daily maintenance, cleaning and sanitization of café equipment, sheet pans and speed racks, floors and service areas
- Coordinates with team and assists in completing prep, cleaning and maintenance tasks at open, throughout shift and at closing
- Perform inspection of café equipment, service areas and storage areas to ensure cleanliness, sanitization and safety to company standards
- Make periodic adjustments, where needed, to ensure goals (cleaning, maintenance, sanitization) are being met throughout shift
Key Results Area #5: Training
- Trains staff on position-related policies and procedures
- Utilizing training guide, introduce Café Associate Trainee to the basics of the role
- Review shift goals and expectations, at the beginning and end of each shift
- Demonstrate each skill listed in training guide, before allowing trainee to attempt
- Provide guidance, focusing first on skills, then on procedure and finally integration into larger operation
- Provide continuing feedback to ensure skills learned are retained long-term

Physical Demands: Standard food service counter; requires standing for long periods of time and moving about the café area as necessary to complete orders. Routinely uses or is in contact with coffee grinders, coffee brewers, hot liquids and large speed racks. The team member must frequently lift or move objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- At least 1 year of café / foodservice experience OR customer service experience.
- Ability to use commercial food service / café equipment: coffee grinders, brewers, scales, point of sales systems
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 18 years or older
- 1 year of café / foodservice leadership experience
- Understanding of food safety protocols
Work Authorization/Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain authorization to work in the United States.
