Corrections Deputy - Part-Time
Summary:
The Midland County Sheriff's Office is seeking part time Correctional Deputies to fill openings. Duties for this position include conducting security rounds, accepting and releasing inmates, and working with inmates and civilians and other duties as assigned by Sheriff's Office Administration.
Candidates must pass a background check, physical agility test, psychological and medical evaluation and meet all MSCTC standards, including a passing score on the EMPCO Corrections test prior to appointment. Test information can be obtained at www.empco.net. Applicants will be required to participate in an oral interview process. Hourly rate starting at $20.45 progressing to $29.71 on a 3 year wage scale.

Under the supervision of the on-duty Sergeant and Jail Administration, the Corrections Deputy performs work of moderate difficulty ensuring the well being of inmates, and performs assigned tasks.
Essential Functions
- Conducts security rounds making sure that all doors within the facility are secure.
- Performs head counts.
- Escorts visitors into the secured side of the facility to see client, patient or probationer.
- Intervenes in fights or altercations.
- Assists in meal service.
- Supervise medication distribution
- Supervises inmate workers in the performance of their tasks.
- Enforces proper hygiene
- Conducts pat down searches of inmates and routine cell searches. Conducts strip searches when changing inmates over into general population.
- Picture and prints arrests on all charges.
- Keeps various reports.
- Transports inmates.
- Distributes and picks up razors.
- Processes arrests into the Jail Management System and Inmate Banking System.
- Runs arrests in LEIN for wants and warrants.
- Assists other staff as needed.
Other Functions
- With proper training, may work as master control deputy, intake deputy, tower deputy, rover deputy or direct supervision deputy.
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the above tasks. (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employees may be expected to perform.)
Employment Qualifications
Education: Must be able to complete Michigan Sheriff's Coordinating and Training Council Corrections Academy within one year of hire, this is part of a paid training program that also includes on-the-job training. High school diploma required.
Experience: Knowledge in CPR, basic first aid and use of AED. Knowledgeable in the use of various communications equipment found in a corrections setting, methods used to search inmates and cells for contraband, and knowledge of the techniques used to communicate with inmates. Must have experience in the use of computer equipment and report writing.
Other Requirements: Ability to learn the LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network), Jail Management System and Inmate Banking System. Ability to qualify with a firearm. Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's license.
