Job Details

Oversees the daily preparation, cooking, and serving of meals at the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen. Responsible for providing direction to kitchen aides and volunteers. Manages kitchen and dining room operations, including interaction with guests. Works closely with the Inventory Coordinator and other staff to operate an efficient and effective operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Instruct assistants and volunteers in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food.
• Monitor safety/sanitation practices to ensure that employees follow standards and regulations. 
• Inspect supplies, equipment, or work areas to ensure compliance to established standards.
• Check the quality of food or supplies, including raw or cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.
• Proficient in use and care of combi oven, steamer, tilt skillet, range, coffee maker, warmer and dish machine.
• Develop a weekly grocery/supply list and keep track of supplies.  Order food and supplies when necessary.
• Ensure daily meals are sent to Shelters in a timely manner.
• Interact daily with guests of Isabella Community Soup Kitchen in a positive manner
• Make reports to the Executive Director regarding complaints and inquiries.
• Compile and maintain records of food use and number of meals served daily.
• Train new volunteers and provide direction to volunteers and staff in a kind manner.
• Ensure all kitchen, dining, and bathroom areas are cleaned after the completion of the daily meal service.  Ensure daily laundering of aprons and towels is completed.
• Maintain kitchen equipment by deep cleaning equipment and sharpening knives as scheduled.
• Plan weekly well-balanced meals using donated products on hand.  Make daily menu alterations based on donations and leftovers
