Key Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred/desired.
- Experience: 2–4 years of experience in office administration, customer service, bookkeeping, or municipal revenue collection. Prior experience with phone customer service, financial planning assistance, or board minute-taking is preferred.
- Certifications: Michigan Certified Municipal Treasurer (MCMT) designation or willingness to pursue relevant Michigan Treasury training.
Skills & Attributes:
- Work Style & Collaboration: Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining a strong team-player mindset and the ability to partner effectively with the City Manager on financial planning.
- Customer Service & Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to field calls regarding Calhoun Campground, assist residents, and prepare clear meeting minutes.
- Computer & Software Skills: Proficient basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets, basic formulas, data entry) and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with municipal financial software systems (such as BS&A) is a plus.
- Accuracy & Financial Planning: Strong organizational skills, precise data entry ability, and a practical understanding of municipal fund accounting, budgeting basics, and collection timelines.
