Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
The Unit Manager is accountable to the Director of Nursing for the day-to-day activities and tasks performed by self and assigned staff (team). Team consists of Nurses, CNAs Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, and Respiratory Therapists. Accountable for overall resident care and staff supervision through the appropriate and consistent follow-through of resident care plans. Accountable for achieving outcome results as outlined for the unit(s) as assigned through the QAPI process. Accountable practice consistent with scope, regulatory requirements, and policies and procedures. Performs related duties as required to meet the Mission, Vision and Values of Michigan Masonic Home.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities to Include but not limited to:
- Performs resident rounds initially upon arrival and no less than two times throughout the shift assessing pain and comfort, changes in condition and assuring physician orders are being followed and medication schedules are appropriate. Makes critical decisions based upon analysis of resident conditions and needs in coordination with the Unit Nurse.
- Participates in scheduled care conferences
- Is responsible for completion of insurance recertification’s and ensuring that prescribed durable medical equipment is ordered and assists with associated paperwork.
- Provides oversight in assuring skin assessments are completed. Reviews and works in coordination with Wound Nurse and Unit Nurse for appropriate treatment and follow through.
- Provides oversight in assuring therapy goals are being followed through on unit(s) (e.g. walk to dine, ROM, therapeutic brace, positioning cushion, etc.).
- Oversight of CNA’s and Nurses.
- Prepares the staff for arrival of a new resident and responsible for the welcoming and orientation of new resident to assigned unit(s).
- Reviews new residents on admission and assures that assessments and care plans are complete and accurate as per regulatory and facility standards, and that the assessment results are documented in the resident’s medical record.
- Attend meetings in collaboration with DON and IDT.
- Assigns and oversees, CNA’s, RT’s and Nurses in having residents ready for appointments and transportation off the unit when scheduled.
- Work in conjunction with the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor to develop person centered respiratory care services.
- Maintains ongoing interaction and develops liaison role by being the main point of contact for family members
- Notifies guardian or next of kin of significant resident condition changes, incidents, appointments and bed hold consents
- Adjust staff unit assignments for shift based on resident needs (acuity) and staff competence and experience (new hires).
- Responsible for interviewing and selection of new team members and successful acclimation and orientation.
Requirements:
- Required training and experience to include graduation from an accredited school of nursing,
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid registered nurse (RN) license required by the State of Michigan, plus two years of related experience. BSN and prior experience in Geriatric nursing is preferred.
- Minimum three years’ experience in a leadership role preferred.
