Assistant Shop Foreman

Schedule: Four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. Fridays off unless overtime is needed or requested.
About Us
Since 1969, Mapco has designed, built, and installed corrosion-resistant PVC pollution control systems for industrial customers, including scrubbers, mist eliminators, and fans. Our work keeps harmful emissions out of the air, and we're growing our team.
About the Role
You'll work side by side with our Shop Foreman to keep the fabrication floor running smoothly, from scheduling jobs and directing the crew to getting finished equipment out the door on time. You'll support the Foreman day-to-day and cover the shop when appropriate.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate job workflows and help prioritize work to meet delivery dates
- Oversee the fabrication floor and assign daily tasks to the crew
- Read and interpret shop drawings, and answer fabricators' questions
- Check completed work for quality and accuracy against drawings and specs
- Train and mentor new fabricators, including teaching PVC welding
- Make sure forklifts, presses, brakes, router, and automated equipment are operated safely and correctly
- Enforce shop safety practices and keep the shop clean and organized
- Track materials, flag shortages, and help with ordering and inventory
- Coordinate with engineering and the office on job status, changes, and deadlines
- Help plan shipping, loading, and field installation crews
- Keep tools and equipment maintained and report repair needs
- Jump in hands-on and fabricate when the schedule demands it
What We're Looking For
- 7 to 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment (required)
- Experience leading, training, or coordinating a crew
- Strong blueprint and shop drawing reading skills
- Experience operating forklifts and shop equipment such as presses, brakes, and routers
- Organized, able to juggle multiple jobs and shifting priorities
- Clear communicator who can work with both the shop floor and the office
- Comfortable with basic computer use (email, spreadsheets, job tracking)
- Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods
- Willing to work overtime when needed
- Valid driver's license
Nice to have:
- Plastics, PVC, or sheet metal fabrication experience
- Experience with automated or CNC fabrication equipment
- AutoCAD experience (viewing, measuring, or making minor edits to drawings)
- Forklift certification
