Description We are looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to support attorneys in a busy family law practice based in Southfield, Michigan. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in a deadline-driven legal environment, handles confidential information with care, and brings strong organizational judgment to daily case support. The role involves a blend of legal document preparation, court filing coordination, calendar oversight, and communication with clients and external parties. Success in this position requires accuracy, sound judgment, and the ability to keep multiple matters moving efficiently.
Responsibilities:
Support attorneys with daily legal and administrative work related to active family law matters, helping keep cases organized and on schedule.
Prepare, edit, and finalize legal correspondence, pleadings, motions, and related documents with close attention to formatting and accuracy.
Submit electronic filings with the appropriate courts and track important due dates to help ensure timely compliance.
Manage attorney schedules by coordinating hearings, depositions, mediations, meetings, court appearances, and client consultations.
Create, organize, and maintain both digital and paper case records so files remain current and easy to access.
Serve as a detail-focused point of contact for clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, and other involved parties regarding scheduling and case updates.
Assemble and organize case materials needed for hearings, mediations, depositions, and trial preparation.
Review and route incoming mail, court notices, and other legal documents, ensuring information is properly recorded and distributed.
Handle sensitive client and case information with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
Provide broader office and attorney support as priorities shift, including assistance with additional legal and administrative projects. Requirements - Previous experience in a Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant, or comparable legal support position.
Background supporting family law matters is preferred.
Familiarity with Michigan court practices and electronic filing procedures is strongly preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Outlook.
Demonstrated strength in proofreading, document formatting, organization, and time management.
Ability to balance competing priorities and maintain accuracy across multiple active cases.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a detail-oriented and composed approach.
Sound judgment and discretion when working with confidential and sensitive legal information.
