Position Summary:
Central Michigan University seeks a Physical Therapy Instructor/Regional Clinical Coordinator to support students participating in external clinical education experiences. The position primarily serves students and clinical partners throughout the northern Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula of Michigan and requires significant regional travel.
Key Responsibilities:
* Coordinate, facilitate, and monitor student clinical education experiences.
* Mentor and provide guidance to clinical instructors and students.
* Visit clinical affiliation sites throughout the assigned Michigan region.
* Support students in problem-solving, critical thinking, and self-reflection during clinical experiences.
* Organize and facilitate meetings with assigned students.
* Serve as a research advisor for student case report requirements.
* Teach and advise students during external clinical experiences.
* Direct graduate student research, primarily involving case reports.
* Participate in university, community, professional, and clinical education service.
* Maintain clinical practice when possible to support current knowledge and student mentorship.
Required Qualifications:
* Licensed or eligible for physical therapy licensure in Michigan.
* Doctoral degree in physical therapy or a post-physical therapy doctoral degree.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a licensed physical therapist.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a clinical instructor, or a combination of clinical instructor and Site Coordinator of Clinical Education experience totaling 5 years.
* Knowledge of physical therapy practice, clinical education, case report research, and adult learning principles.
* Strong communication, organization, teaching, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and travel extensively within the assigned region.
* Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association and APTA Michigan.
* APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor certification or intent to obtain it.
* Professional involvement in physical therapy organizations.
* ABPTS specialty certification, residency, fellowship, or equivalent credentials.
* Knowledge of hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and physical therapy practices in northern Lower Michigan and/or the Upper Peninsula.
