The Bander Captain performs production packaging and material preparation activities in a metal manufacturing environment. Packages and bands material according to work orders and control plans, maintains product identification and traceability, coordinates packaging activities, operates production-system/barcoding processes, assigns storage locations, and supports the company's quality system by identifying and reporting quality concerns and stopping production when necessary to prevent nonconforming material.
Job Summary
- Fully participate in and support the Horizon Steel Quality System
- Comply with safety requirements in area, specifically hard hat and safety glasses
- Package the material in accordance with specification on the Work Order
- Package material following procedures specified on the Control Plan.
- Coordinate packaging activities.
- Bar code material through Pro-flo production system
- Identify material with identification tag.
- Designate storage locations for material.
- Keep the area clean including:
- Packaging supplies neatly arranged
- Floor in area kept free of scrap paper, banding , etc.
- Report any quality concerns, including stopping production to prevent a nonconformance, to the immediate supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
May or may not have experience in a metal manufacturing environment.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred
- Must have basic reading, writing and math skills.

- Semi-automatic banding equipment
- Banding conveyor, turnstiles and coil picker
- Hand operated banding equipment.
- Electronic scale
