Job Description
Stryker is seeking two Contract Test Engineers to support validation efforts on an embedded medical device product. These individuals will be responsible for developing and executing test scripts used to verify firmware and hardware integration at the MCU/circuit board level.
This is a highly hands-on engineering environment, and candidates must be willing to work onsite in Portage, MI 4-5 days per week. The role involves physical fixture builds and hardware interaction, making remote work unavailable.
Important Note: This search is open to candidates coming from either a testing background or an embedded development background. Strong embedded software engineers who have never worked in formal testing environments are encouraged, provided they possess the required technical skill set.
Responsibilities
Develop, modify, and execute test scripts to validate embedded hardware and firmware functionality
Perform system-level testing on MCU and circuit board-based products
Troubleshoot and debug hardware/software integration issues
Work closely with engineering teams to identify and resolve defects
Analyze existing test frameworks and improve test coverage where necessary
Read, maintain, or potentially rewrite legacy test scripts in Python
Support fixture setup and execution of test activities in a lab environment

Skills and Requirements
Technical Requirements:
5+ years of experience in Embedded Systems Engineering or Embedded Software Development
Strong experience with Python scripting
Experience working with CAN (Controller Area Network) protocol
Strong electronics and hardware background
Embedded circuitry
MCU-based systems
Hardware-level troubleshooting and validation
Ability to work onsite in Portage, MI 4-5 days per week
Additional Requirements:
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment
Ability to quickly understand complex embedded systems Highly Desired ("All-Star" Candidate):
Experience with National Instruments VeriStand
VeriStand is currently used within portions of the legacy testing environment. The selected consultant will either:
Read and maintain existing VeriStand-based test scripts, or
Rewrite/convert legacy scripts into Python-based test frameworks.
Candidates with VeriStand experience will receive strong consideration due to the niche nature of the technology.
