Job Summary/Description:
WILX-WSYM, the dominant news leader in Lansing, Michigan, is seeking an experienced, dynamic News Executive Producer/Anchor to lead and host “The 517 Report”, a new local newscast focused on the mid-Michigan market. This is a leadership role for a hands-on journalist who wants to shape a new program from the ground up, combining editorial leadership with a primary on-air presence.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Lead the editorial vision, content development, and production of a new local newscast focused on the Lansing and Jackson communities — ensuring high standards of journalism, production quality, and brand consistency.
• Oversee the daily editorial direction of the newscast. Collaborate closely with producers to shape daily content, review scripts, and deliver dynamic newscasts.
• Coach and mentor newsroom staff, providing constructive feedback.
• Anchor newscasts with high energy, credibility, authority, and a conversational delivery.
• Schedule, prepare, and conduct compelling in-depth interviews with local newsmakers, public officials, and community leaders on major issues.
• Pitch, research, write, and produce compelling local news stories.
• Deliver live reports from the field and in-studio during breaking news and severe weather events.
• Publish engaging, timely content to the station’s website, mobile app, and social media channels.
• Conduct live interviews with local newsmakers, community leaders, and experts.
• Represent the station professionally at community events and station initiatives.
• Maintain a collaborative, team-first attitude in the newsroom.
• Other duties as assigned.
