Job Summary:
The Sales and Use Tax Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring Client satisfaction for their engagements through review and quality control of deliverables. The Manager has a deep and thorough understanding of sales and use tax compliance reporting and filing nuances, is an integral part of onboarding and client setup, takes part in reviewing returns, reconciliations and confirmations as well as training, mentoring and supporting peers and colleagues within the team. This position requires a detail-oriented, highly motivated team player who willingly participates and leads projects around process improvements, automation and other initiatives. In addition, the Manager has prior experience with contracts, financial analysis, marketing and sales. Our compliance solution utilizes Vertex Indirect Tax Returns software and a customized web-portal.
Job Duties:
Maintains Client satisfaction
Assists with and supports all sales tax compliance operations
Processes tax returns, filings and completing reconciliations
Reviews prepared returns and filing confirmations
Leads and manages projects such as process improvements, firm initiatives and amended returns
Proactively develops and maintains relationships with both team members and clients
Reviews and approves invoices as well as analyzes financial metrics
Acts as the primary lead and point of contact to new engagements and onboarding efforts
Maintains contracts and participates in sales opportunities
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the day-to-day workload of SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements and reviews work products
Ensures SALT Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns receive proper training and support with all relevant tax software and procedures
Evaluates the performance of SALT Senior Associates and Associates and assists in the development of goals and objectives to enhance professional development
Delivers performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for SALT Senior Associates, Associates and Interns
Mentors associates and seniors and provides training as necessary
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Education
Bachelor's Degree, required
Experience
Five (5) or more years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, required
Experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required
Experience preparing and/or reviewing sales and use tax returns, required
License(s)/Certification(s)
CPA or CMI certification, preferred
Software
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, required
Knowledge of Vertex Indirect Tax Returns or other sales tax compliance solutions, required
Familiarity with Database software, Alteryx or Power Query, required

Executive presence with the ability to serve as the primary contact on assigned engagements
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with professionals at all levels
Advanced knowledge of tax standards and their application to ensure efficient and effective delivery of tax services

Demonstrates sound judgment and effective problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and lead projects and engagement teams
Skilled in analyzing and developing more efficient processes and procedures
Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
