What this job involves
The Plumberis responsible forinspecting,maintaining, repairing, and replacing plumbing systems and components across assignedschools and support facilities. This position responds to routine and emergency work orders involving domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, restrooms, kitchens, water heaters, piping, valves, traps, fixtures, and related equipment. The Plumber works collaboratively with Maintenance Area Managers, school administrators, GDI personnel, vendors, andDistrictrepresentatives to keep facilities safe, sanitary, code-compliant, and ready for instruction and community use. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills, sound independent judgment,accuratedocumentation, and professional service in occupied school environments.
Qualifications
Current Michigan journey plumber license required for work that must be performed by a licensed plumber;additionallicensing or endorsements are preferred where relevant to assigned duties.
High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent training preferred.
Demonstratedexperiencetroubleshooting, repairing, andmaintainingcommercial or institutional plumbing systems; school-facility experience preferred.
Working knowledge of plumbing codes, tools, materials, fixtures, piping systems, drainage equipment, and safe work practices.
Ability to read plans, diagrams, equipment documentation, and work-order information and to use mobile or computer-based maintenance systems.
Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, andcustomer-serviceskills.
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass required background and drug screening.
Ability to work independently, travel among assigned facilities, andparticipatein scheduled on-call or after-hourscoverage.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, withassistanceor mechanical means used for heavier items.
Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and in mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, restrooms, kitchens, and other active school environments.
Regular exposure to water, noise, dust, odors, chemicals, sewage-contaminated materials, and other conditions typical of plumbing maintenance;requiredprotective measures must be followed.
