Position Title: Special Education Bus Aide
Start Date: 2026–2027 School Year
Classification: Term Position (Not a new position)
Reports To: Director of Transportation and/or Superintendent of Schools
Posting Type: Internal posting for USWA members with concurrent external posting, if needed
Work Schedule:
- Hours: Approximately 4–5 hours per day
- Bus/Route: Will vary depending on student and transportation needs
- Morning Schedule: Between 5:55 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
- Afternoon Schedule: Between 2:20 p.m. and 4:55 p.m.
- No pre-trip duties are required
- No end-of-route clean-up duties are required
- Work is performed only on days of student instruction
- Exact time and schedule will be assigned by the Director of Transportation and/or Superintendent of Schools
Compensation & Benefits:
- Union Transfer: Per Master Contract
- New Hire Rate: $16.30 per hour
- Benefits: Eligible for Category 3 benefits
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with student supervision and maintain order while students are being transported
- Provide supervision and support for individual special education students or groups of students based on IEP and medical needs
- Assist students in following school bus safety procedures and expectations
- Support the safe transportation of students throughout assigned routes
- Participate in special training as required based on student needs
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation and/or Superintendent of Schools
Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Minimum 10th-grade reading level
- Experience supervising children
- Knowledge of school bus safety procedures and rules
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive rapport with students, teachers, administrators, and parents
- Ability to take direction and follow established procedures
- Dependable and responsible
- Available to participate in special training as required
- Qualifications for this classification may vary depending on the individual needs of the child or children assigned
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
