Job Description
The Project Specialist is responsible for managing the execution of plant-funded capital projects and quality improvement initiatives within a gear manufacturing and machining environment. This role serves as the primary liaison between gear machining engineering, quality, maintenance, skilled trades, finance, purchasing, and external contractors/vendors to ensure projects are properly scoped, funded, scheduled, and completed. Responsibilities include coordinating equipment installations, tooling and fixture upgrades, error-proofing initiatives, contractor activities, budget tracking, purchase order management, and project documentation. The Project Specialist will support manufacturing processes including hobbing, shaving, grinding, deburring, chamfering, blanking, and heat treatment operations while driving projects that improve safety, quality, throughput, and operational efficiency. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, cross-functional communication, project management capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects from concept through implementation and closeout
Compensation:
$35/hr
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Skills and Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
2+ years of experience in project coordination, project management, or a related administrative/technical support role (internships/co-ops accepted)
2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment (machining, gear manufacturing, automotive, or related)
Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously in a manufacturing environment.
Experience developing and maintaining project schedules, timelines, and milestone tracking.
Experience supporting project budgets, purchase orders, invoices, and financial reconciliation activities.
Experience working directly with suppliers, contractors, and/or equipment vendors.
Strong documentation and reporting experience, including project status updates and risk tracking
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field
2+ years of experience in automotive, powertrain, gear manufacturing, or machining environments
Familiarity with gear manufacturing processes including hobbing, shaving, grinding, deburring, chamfering, blanking, and heat treatment
Experience supporting capital projects and Appropriation Requests (ARs)
Experience with budget tracking, purchase orders, and financial reconciliation
Knowledge of quality tools such as FMEA, 8D, 5-Why, and PPAP
Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma exposure (Poka-Yoke, Kaizen, Continuous Improvement)
Experience coordinating contractors, equipment installations, and machine/tooling projects
PMP or CAPM certification preferred
