The Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) is looking for an experienced construction professional to teach high school students the fundamentals of the skilled trades. If you're passionate about construction and want to make a lasting impact on the next generation, we'd love to talk with you.

What You'll Teach
Students begin their construction journey by learning the fundamentals of the industry through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab activities.
Topics include:
- Construction Safety
- Hand & Power Tools
- Reading Construction Drawings
- Material Handling
- Basic Construction Skills
- Professionalism and Career Readiness
No previous teaching experience is required—we'll provide training and support to help you succeed.
Position Details
- Part-time position (approximately 13–15 hours per week)
- Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 7:20–9:20 a.m.
- Location: Lansing
- Reports to the Vice President
What You'll Do
- Create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment.
- Teach construction concepts through classroom instruction and hands-on activities.
- Encourage and mentor high school students as they explore careers in the skilled trades.
- Prepare lessons using the NCCER curriculum.
- Administer written exams and hands-on performance assessments.
- Utilize technology, including Chromebooks, to support instruction.
- Assist with maintaining and improving the construction lab.
- Attend instructor meetings and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with young people and has a passion for the construction industry.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Journeyman status or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum four years of construction experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safety
- Willingness to become an NCCER Certified Instructor (training provided)
