JOB TITLE
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)'s Regulation & Certification Department is currently seeking a Certification and Compliance Technician for our Emission Test Team at the Superior Township facility in Michigan, just east of Ann Arbor. HATCI's Certification & Compliance Team helps support Hyundai and Kia vehicles meeting the challenging environmental, and emissions standards at the federal, state, and local levels, through certification & in-use testing.
Certification & Compliance Test technicians are responsible for conducting detailed inspections on in-use compliance and certification vehicles, completing minor vehicle prep work including part removal / replacement and fabrication, instrumenting vehicles, collecting vehicle data, and working closely with the Test Ops engineering team. Other responsibilities include tracking and completing audits for department vehicles, department fixed assets, and the calibration of team test equipment. Testing may include EV, PHEV, HEV and ICE for in-use compliance (IUVP) and certification (EDV, FEDV, EVAP, DDV). Other testing may include mileage accumulation, coast-down, special driving pattern arrangements, PEMS/RDE and other emissions-related items. Team members need to be knowledgeable in compliance & certification test practices, emission test practices, current & future regulatory requirements, CFR (Code of Federal Regulation) & CCR (Code of California Regulation).
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Responsible for completing and documenting detailed inspections on compliance and certification vehicles.
Responsible for preparing vehicles for emissions testing, PEMS testing and coast-down testing
Responsible for minor repairs, vehicle diagnoses, parts removal & replacement, minor fab work, vehicle instrumentation, ordering parts and coordinating all outside repair services
Support Test Ops engineering team for all compliance & certification testing
Prepare and clean in-use vehicles for return
Responsible for maintaining department loaner fleet, required services, monthly reporting, and audits
Track department fixed assets, complete audits as required, and track equipment calibrations
Help develop and maintain test processes to ensure proper execution of official EPA and CARB testing. Proactively follow up on all issues related to this topic.
Be capable of understanding powertrain and emission control system testing operations and be highly capable of quickly understanding and interpreting technical problems and issues as represented in testing system problems.
Create and present reports, as assigned.
Perform additional projects, as assigned.
Exceptional organization and communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary for this position. Conflict resolution between test requestors and test entities would be another critical factor in this role
Travel up to 15% of time domestically and internationally is possible.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
Educational Requirements:
Associate's degree or Automotive Trade School
Automotive Technology or Repair and Services
ASE or State of MI automotive certificate(s)
Related Industry Experience Requirements:
3-5yr. Total
1-3yr. Automotive repair and services. Vehicle instrumentation and fab work.
1-3yr. HEV/PHEV/EV
1yr. Vehicle emission testing
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Automotive repair / service

Project management
Proficiency in MS Office
