Job Title: Distribution Design Engineer IJob Description
We are seeking a Distribution Design Engineer I responsible for planning, engineering, and designing electric and gas distribution systems. This role involves determining the need, size, location, and timing of power delivery infrastructure development, balancing economic, environmental, social, and regulatory constraints with reliability needs. The position includes tasks such as developing work packages for overhead, underground residential distribution, and underground cable/conduit field engineering. The candidate will identify conflicting utilities, perform engineering and design calculations, and conduct post-construction reviews.
Responsibilities
Plan and design electric and gas distribution systems.
Develop work packages for overhead and underground residential distribution.
Perform field engineering to identify project requirements and conflicting utilities.
Conduct engineering and design calculations.
Review post-construction outcomes.
Solve routine technical problems following established procedures.
Communicate with peers to explain facts, basic analysis, processes, and practices related to the area.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental) or equivalent experience.
0-2 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree.
Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
Basic knowledge of power delivery systems and design engineering.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate's degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience will be considered.
Experience working with an electric utility or consulting company.
Ability to lift 20 pounds and walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces.
Must have reliable transportation.
Driver's license required.
Work Environment
The work environment is divided between 70% remote work and 30% fieldwork in assigned territories in Michigan. The position requires comfort in both field and office settings. The role offers opportunities for upward mobility and potential movement to support programs in other states.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.00/hr.
