Modern enterprise environments depend on secure, resilient, and highly available application delivery services to support internal and external applications, business operations, partner connectivity, APIs, and digital experiences. These services require disciplined operational management to ensure traffic routing, load balancing, edge security controls, certificates, DNS integration, and platform configurations remain reliable, secure, supportable, and scalable.
The Internet Ingress & Edge Engineer supports platform administration, service onboarding, lifecycle activities, automation, troubleshooting, monitoring, governance, and continuous improvement across enterprise ingress and edge connectivity platforms. The role helps maintain reliable application delivery while improving platform consistency, operational visibility, and service resilience.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a technically skilled Internet Ingress & Edge Engineer to support the operational management, availability, security, performance, and lifecycle of enterprise application delivery and ingress services.
The role serves as an operations-facing engineering resource responsible for load balancing platforms, ingress services, routing and traffic management, DNS integration, certificate services, edge security controls, application onboarding, and infrastructure automation across cloud and virtualized environments.
Role positioning: This role combines cloud networking, application delivery, edge infrastructure operations, service onboarding, automation, and production support. It is not a pure firewall or WAF policy role; its primary focus is reliable traffic delivery, platform availability, and supportable operational execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Internet Ingress Operations
Support day-to-day administration and operational ownership of ingress and edge connectivity services.
Monitor platform health, service availability, performance, capacity, and operational risk.
Troubleshoot connectivity, routing, load balancing, DNS, certificate, and application delivery issues.
Support incident response, problem management, major incident coordination, and operational escalations.
Participate in on-call support, service restoration, and planned maintenance activities.
Load Balancing and Edge Infrastructure
Configure, administer, and support AWS Application Load Balancers (ALB), AWS Network Load Balancers (NLB), AVI load balancers, and Azure ingress services.
Maintain listeners, target groups or pools, health checks, traffic policies, persistence, failover, and resiliency configurations.
Perform configuration management, platform upgrades, maintenance, validation, and lifecycle activities.
Support capacity planning, performance tuning, availability improvement, and configuration drift remediation.
Coordinate with cloud, network, firewall, WAF, application, and vendor teams to resolve cross-platform issues.
Application Onboarding and Traffic Management
Support onboarding, offboarding, migration, and release enablement for applications, URLs, domains, APIs, and services.
Gather and validate routing, DNS, certificate, load balancing, security, dependency, and operational support requirements.
Coordinate traffic distribution, service exposure, implementation, testing, rollback, and post-change validation.
Identify application and infrastructure dependencies before changes are introduced into production.
Maintain application delivery records, configuration documentation, and operational support information.
Edge Security and Certificate Services
Support AWS Shield and related edge security controls, DDoS protections, traffic filtering, and secure service exposure.
Coordinate SSL/TLS certificate requests, installation, renewal, expiration monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Validate secure protocol and cipher configurations in alignment with approved standards.
Investigate and remediate configuration drift, security findings, certificate risks, and operational control gaps.
Provide technical support to security and incident response teams when ingress or edge services are involved.
Automation and Platform Lifecycle Management
Build, maintain, and govern Infrastructure-as-Code capabilities using Terraform and Git-based workflows.
Automate repeatable configuration, validation, monitoring, and operational support activities where appropriate.
Contribute to platform standardization, reusable modules, deployment patterns, and configuration baselines.
Support technology refresh, upgrades, decommissioning, feature evaluation, and platform optimization.
Maintain operational runbooks, technical standards, architecture records, and knowledge content.
Operational Governance and Continuous Improvement
Participate in change management, peer review, service reviews, governance forums, and operational readiness activities.
Produce and maintain service metrics, availability information, change records, risk items, and support documentation.
Analyze recurring incidents, operational friction, and technical debt to identify improvement opportunities.
Coordinate vendor support and escalation when platform defects or advanced troubleshooting are required.
Apply standard work and lessons learned to improve consistency, resilience, and long-term supportability.
To qualify for the role you must have
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience preferred.
5+ years of experience in networking, cloud infrastructure, application delivery, load balancing, Internet ingress, edge operations, or related platform engineering roles.
Hands-on experience troubleshooting end-to-end application traffic flows across DNS, TLS, load balancers, routing, cloud networking, firewalls, and backend targets.
Experience supporting highly available production environments using formal incident, change, and problem management practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and cross-team coordination skills.
Ability to participate in scheduled maintenance, after-hours changes, and on-call support as required.
Ideally, you'd also have
Experience with AWS ALB/NLB, AWS Shield, AVI/NSX Advanced Load Balancer, and Azure ingress technologies.
Experience with DNS administration, SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management, and traffic management services.
Experience with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, Git, APIs, and configuration automation.
Experience supporting hybrid-cloud, multi-region, and business-critical application delivery environments.
Working knowledge of WAF, CDN, DDoS mitigation, firewalls, security groups, and application security dependencies.
Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Advanced Networking, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Network Engineer Associate, CCNA/CCNP, Terraform Associate, ITIL, or comparable credentials.
