The Manufacturing Engineer supports manufacturing process development initiatives for automotive and advanced technology clients. This role focuses on interpreting technical requirements, designing and launching manufacturing processes, performing lean analysis, supporting capital equipment decisions, and building technical and financial evaluations for competing processes. You will work hands-on with customers and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful project execution while independently driving critical manufacturing engineering tasks.
Responsibilities
Translate technical data packages into clear and actionable manufacturing and assembly process requirements.
Plan, design, and launch new manufacturing and assembly processes for automotive and advanced technology applications.
Perform lean analysis of equipment layouts, workflow, and labor utilization to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
Evaluate, compare, and recommend capital equipment solutions aligned with technical and financial objectives.
Create technical and financial business cases to support process and equipment selection and down-selection decisions.
Interface directly with customers to review project progress, present deliverables, and gather requirements and feedback.
Conduct manufacturing system simulations, including material flow analysis and facility layout optimization.
Analyze material flow to ensure effective movement of components and products through manufacturing systems.
Develop and refine facility layouts using tools such as AutoCAD to support efficient manufacturing operations.
Collaborate closely within cross-functional engineering teams to integrate manufacturing requirements into overall project plans.
Support process improvement initiatives by applying lean manufacturing principles and best practices.
Contribute to the development and optimization of production processes, equipment utilization, and manufacturing workflows.
Participate in project reviews and provide manufacturing engineering input on feasibility, risk, and cost.
Work hands-on in a consulting/manufacturing environment to support multiple client projects and ensure successful implementation.
Essential Skills
10+ years of experience in process, industrial, or manufacturing engineering.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing product development, production processes, equipment, and machinery.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical data packages and convert them into manufacturing and assembly requirements.
Proven experience planning, designing, and launching manufacturing processes in a production environment.
Ability to apply lean manufacturing principles to workflows, layouts, and overall process efficiency.
Experience developing technical and financial business cases to support process and equipment down-selection.
Hands-on experience with material flow analysis and facility layout design.
Experience conducting manufacturing systems simulations, including material flow and facility layout.
Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar tools for layout and manufacturing engineering work.
Background in manufacturing engineering and manufacturing process development.
Experience with lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
Eligibility to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Exposure to manufacturing automation and advanced engineering technologies.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
US citizenship or permanent residency status may be required to meet clearance eligibility.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role based in Auburn Hills, MI, working within integrated project teams alongside engineers, customers, and cross-functional groups. The environment is fast-paced and consulting-oriented, supporting multiple automotive and advanced technology clients in manufacturing and automation projects. You will regularly work with manufacturing systems, simulation tools, material flow analysis, and facility layout design, including use of AutoCAD and other engineering technologies. The role involves local and occasional overnight travel to client sites, with frequent exposure to manufacturing facilities, automation systems, and advanced engineering operations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
