General Laborer – Sawmill (Entry Level)
Location: Vestaburg, MI Position Type: Full-Time Shift: Day shift
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level General Laborer to join our sawmill team. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, staying active, and learning new skills in a fast-paced production environment. The primary responsibility of this position is stacking lumber, with opportunities for on-the-job training and advancement into skilled roles such as Forklift/Driver and Board Edger Operator.
Key Responsibilities
- Stack lumber efficiently and safely as it comes off the production line
- Assist with general mill labor including cleanup, sorting, and material handling
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet production goals
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support mill operations
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Forklift experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 lbs regularly
- Comfortable working in an outdoor/industrial environment
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
Training & Advancement
We provide comprehensive on-the-job training for all entry-level employees. As skills develop, team members have the opportunity to advance into higher-responsibility roles, including:
- Driver/Forklift Operator – transporting lumber and materials within the yard
- Board Edger Operator – operating machinery to trim and finish lumber to specifications
- Sawyer - cuts wood, logs, or timber as a job. The term also refers to a tree stuck in a riverbed that bobs in the current, or a type of wood-boring beetle
- Lumber Grader - inspects and categorizes timber in the sawmill industry
