Job Summary
The Broadband Technician I installs, maintains, and repairs internet, phone, video, and network services for residential and business customers. This role works with copper, fiber optic, and wireless networks, troubleshoots service issues, and helps ensure customers receive reliable communication services.
Excellent customer service is expected in all interactions with customers and coworkers.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair voice, internet, video, and broadband services.
- Install and troubleshoot equipment such as modems, routers, ONTs, NIDs, and set-top boxes.
- Install and maintain copper, fiber optic, and wireless network infrastructure.
- Perform fiber and copper cable splicing and repairs.
- Locate underground cables and utility lines.
- Assist with fiber-to-the-home construction and installations.
- Support network outage restoration and emergency service calls.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and service reports.
- Operate company vehicles, bucket trucks, testing equipment, and hand tools safely.
- Assist senior technicians and continue developing technical skills.
- Maintain company equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- May be exposed to noise, heights, and other hazardous work environments.
- Participation in an on-call rotation may be required.
- Overtime and travel may be necessary to support business needs.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Basic understanding of telecommunications, networking, fiber optics, and broadband services.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and make sound decisions independently.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to read and interpret network records, maps, diagrams, and technical documents.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to safely operate tools, testing equipment, and work vehicles.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when required.
Preferred Technical Experience
Experience with one or more of the following:
- Fiber optic and copper cable installation and maintenance
- Broadband and internet services (DSL, FTTH, Ethernet, IPTV)
- Wireless networks (Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint)
- PBX and Unified Communications systems
- Network equipment and troubleshooting
- Telecommunications infrastructure and testing equipment
Education and Experience
Internal Candidates
- Minimum one year of experience as a Broadband Technician.
External Candidates
- Experience performing similar telecommunications, broadband, fiber, or network installation and repair duties.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical training or coursework in telecommunications, electronics, fiber optics, networking, or a related field preferred.
- Network+ certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, climb poles or towers, and work at heights as needed.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in random testing as required.

- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
- Must pass a background check.
- Reliable attendance and professional appearance.
