Job Title: Finishing Technician
Job Description
The Finishing Technician plays a critical role as the final step in the trailer manufacturing process, ensuring each trailer is fully assembled and ready for shipment after it leaves the paint department. This position focuses on installing components such as wiring, hydraulic lines, brake lines, axles, decals, and reflectors, using kit-based instructions and basic tools to complete the trailer to a high standard of quality and safety.
Responsibilities
Receive painted trailers and perform final assembly to prepare them for shipment.
Install brake lines and wiring components using kit assembly lists, following clear step-by-step instructions similar to assembling pre-packaged products.
Screw and secure axles onto the base of the trailer, ensuring proper alignment and fit.
Run airlines and rubber hoses along the trailer structure according to layout and safety requirements.
Install electrical wiring throughout the trailer, including routing cables and connecting components as directed.
Install lights, stickers, and decals, ensuring correct placement and a clean, professional appearance.
Place reflectors and other safety markings on trailers in accordance with specifications.
Utilize basic hand tools and power tools to assemble and secure parts, including pneumatic tools where needed.
Work as part of a two-person finish line team, collaborating closely to complete trailers efficiently and accurately.
As an air brake technician or mechanic, remove and clean hubs, replace slack adjusters, chambers, and brake shoes, and install new bearings and bushings as required.
Handle used hubs and torque bearings using proper torque procedures to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Follow assembly instructions and production guidelines carefully to maintain quality standards.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work station, including sweeping and basic housekeeping tasks.
Lift and move components weighing 50 pounds or more consistently throughout the shift.
Adhere to safety protocols and use tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
Essential Skills
1-2 years of consistent job tenure demonstrating reliability and commitment.
Proficiency with basic hand tools used in mechanical and assembly work.
Proficiency with power tools, including pneumatic tools, in a fabrication or assembly environment.
Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds on a regular basis during the workday.
Mechanical aptitude and comfort with assembly tasks in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
Ability to follow detailed assembly instructions and kit lists accurately.
Willingness to work effectively as part of a two-person team on the finish line.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with electrical wiring in an industrial or automotive setting.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints or technical drawings.
Experience or knowledge of welding, particularly spot welding.
Familiarity with trailer components, braking systems, or similar mechanical systems.
Attention to detail in both mechanical assembly and cosmetic finishing (decals, reflectors, lights).

Work Environment
This role is based in a fabrication shop environment where trailers are assembled and finished for shipment. Finishing Technicians work on the first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and operate as part of two-person teams on the finish line. The facility uses a variety of basic hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools for assembly work, as well as equipment related to air brake systems and trailer components. The atmosphere is laid back and team-oriented, with music played in the area and a focus on working together to accomplish production goals. The environment is typical of a fabrication shop, with active production areas, mechanical equipment, and a culture that values cleanliness and organization at each workstation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgman, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
