The JV Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and mentoring student-athletes in a positive, educational, and competitive environment. This role emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and preparation of athletes for progression to the varsity level, in alignment with school policies and guidelines set by the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
Education / Qualification Requirements:
• Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent required, college degree preferred
• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and training techniques
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with high school-aged students
• Must meet all district and/or state requirements for school coaches (including background check, CPR/First Aid certification, and any necessary coaching certifications or training)
• Previous experience coaching or playing basketball at the high school or competitive youth level
Essential Job Functions:
• Provide a list of anticipated participants and ensure that all paper work regarding eligibility, roster, physicals, and signed athletic codes are turned into the Athletic Director prior to deadline
• Responsible for arrangements and preparation of equipment, uniforms, and practice facilities
• Assist in coordinating game schedules, transportation, and equipment needs with the Athletic Director
• Plan, organize, and conduct practices focused on fundamental skill development, conditioning, and game strategy
• Instruct athletes on rules, techniques, and sportsmanship in girls’ basketball
• Promote the development of sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and respect among all players
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team events
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, school staff, and the athletic department
• Support the academic goals of student-athletes by encouraging strong study habits and school engagement
• Check academic progress of players weekly
• Ensure compliance with all school policies and MHSAA rules and regulations
• Support and collaborate with the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach to align program goals and player development
• Respond appropriately to injuries and ensure athlete safety at all times
• Model professionalism and integrity through consistent attendance and positive leadership at all times
• Other duties as assigned
