Position Title: Medical Aide

Department:  Clinical

Reports to:  Medical Supervisor

FLSA:  Non-Exempt

FT/PT: Full-Time (40 hours)

Purpose & General Description of the Position: This position is responsible for assisting the Medical Supervisor in implementing all tasks to help meet the medical needs of the residents, including but not limited to facilitating medication passes, administering basic first aid, and transporting youth to medical/dental appointments as needed. Works as part of a larger treatment team to provide trauma-informed care to children who have experienced profound abuse and/or neglect.    

Minimum Requirements:

·        Completion of Medical Assistant/CNA program and can provide proof of certification, or equivalent experience.

·        Current First Aid/CPR Certification for Adults and Children

·        Meets State “Good Moral Character” guidelines;

·        Prefer experience with children’s programs and/or working with at-risk youth.

·        At least 1 year of medication administration experience

·        Valid Michigan driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier; Must maintain valid Driver’s License as a term of employment.

Required Skills & Abilities:

·        Demonstrates ability to prioritize multiple tasks, as well as reprioritize tasks as needed based on incoming workflow.

·        Ability to effectively express oneself in verbal and written form in public speaking settings.

·        Current working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and other office equipment; Google-Calendar Sheets & Docs preferred.

·        Ability to work well with a multi-disciplinary team as well as children with trauma histories.

·        Ability to work well with a multi-disciplinary team and children.

·        Positive customer service skills.

·        Knowledge of medical terminology and its applications.

·        Knowledge of Five Rights of Medication Administration.

·        Physical ability to stand and/or walk up intermittingly during shift, to occasionally lift, carry, and/or push up to 25 pounds, and to be able to successfully complete and be certified in TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) Training.

Essential Duties:

·        Performs basic first aid & minor treatments as assigned by the Director of Clinical and as per scope of practice.

·        Observes, reports, and records pertinent children status utilizing proper policies and procedures.

·        Administers all medications to children, as prescribed.

·        Assists the Medical Supervisor during employee medication trainings.

·        Transport children to medica/dental appointments as needed (use of personal vehicle may be required).

• Maintaining all annual training requirements, including maintaining updated CPR Certification.
• Participating in all required team and staff meetings, including individual supervision and other staff development opportunities.

Please Note: All other duties may be assigned by the President/CEO, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Program Officer.
