We are looking for a strong, dependable, competent, and efficient individual to work alongside us to grow our Give A Scrap Food Composting Service in the Great Lakes Bay region of Michigan. In this position, you will drive an electric vehicle to collect food scraps from both residential and business customers, and deliver this material to a compost site for recycling.
We are seeking candidates who enjoy physical, hands-on work, and are motivated by making a positive impact on the environment and local community. This is a part-time position offered as 20-25 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., with occasional extended hours. This position may transition to full-time as we grow the number of service subscribers. Drivers will receive on-the-job training for assigned routes, and operation of various collection vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates vehicles and performs all tasks in accordance with company standards and safety rules, OSHA and Department of Transportation regulations, as well as all local, state and federal laws.
- Completes route assignments as directed in a safe and efficient manner.
- Weigh and record data from each stop; verify all deliveries utilizing company-wide communications tools through text and photographic documentation.
- Communicates prompt and accurate information related to customer requests, service interruptions, accidents, incidents, or unsafe situations, and anything else out of the ordinary.
- Deliver collected food scraps to the designated food scrap processor or compost site.
- Manage the inventory of collection containers and label new containers as needed.
- Inspect, clean and maintain collection vehicles.
Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must hold a valid Michigan Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record. A Chauffeur's License will be required at time of hire or be obtained shortly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening test.
- Experience driving trucks and pull-behind trailers is desired.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing wheeled carts weighing up to 300 pounds, bending, lifting, and twisting as part of the job duties. Position will also frequently enter and exit vehicles, walk to and from service points, and work outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the year.
- Use GPS devices or mapping applications to navigate routes.
- Ability to problem-solve and ask for help when needed.
- Represent the company in a friendly and professional manner when interacting with customers.
- Follow company policies and procedures diligently.
- Learn and work with the company's timekeeping/project management/customer management system and Gmail.
