Oakland HOPE Ministries – Donation Dock - Job Description
The Thrift Store Donation Dock position at Oakland HOPE is the “heartbeat” of our entire ministry. This Donation Dock position is a critical OH TEAM position. Your success helps fund our food pantry. Oakland HOPE is a fast-passed, volunteer-driven, growing non-profit Thrift Store which funds our Client Choice Food Pantry. Candidates should possess strong and approachable human service abilities, customer service, attention to detail, aptitude for multi-tasking, ability to communicate clearly and delegate as well as the capability of working effectively and independently with staff. As an OH TEAM member you are responsible to lead daily volunteers and extend grace under pressure. Executing daily operations of Thrift Store donations and dock utilizing staff and volunteers working together toward a common goal. You are responsible for their success!
Position Description
- Unload carts, bags, boxes, furniture and donated items with care and caution.
- Move furniture/load furniture.
- Prepare items for resale by inspecting, sorting sell-able and non-sellable items and hanging clothing as needed.
- Planning and executing daily production of the backroom of Thrift Store utilizing staff and volunteers.
- Responsible for maintaining a daily atmosphere of TEAM-work and camaraderie with staff and volunteers throughout the store.
- Supervising groups of 1-10 volunteers at one time, keeping volunteers on task and effectively communicating expectations and ability to delegate through successful completion of projects.
- Possess the ability to keep information of staff/volunteers in a confidential and secure manner.
- Must be self-motivated who can work in a constantly changing environment.
- Must be able to adhere to project and work deadlines to ensure effective follow-through by staff and volunteers. You are responsible for their success! And how, and what to change when they don’t.
- This position requires walking, standing, and lifting boxes up to 40lbs, and the ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Cross train into other department to fill positions when necessary
- Power Pallet Jack and Hi-lo experience a plus (will provide training if needed)
- TEAM members must be punctual for work attendance, scheduled work, and breaks.
- You will work under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and work closely with the other Department Managers.
