Front Desk & Leasing Assistant
Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The City of Manistee Housing Commission is seeking a highly organized, customer-focused professional to join our team as a Front Desk & Leasing Assistant.
This position serves as the primary point of contact for residents, applicants, and the public while providing administrative, leasing, occupancy, and compliance support for the Housing Commission's operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Property Manager to support leasing, applicant processing, resident communications, recertifications, office administration, and other operational responsibilities.
This position requires exceptional customer service, professionalism, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced public housing environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary front desk representative for residents, applicants, vendors, and the public.
- Answer telephones, greet visitors, and provide courteous, professional customer service.
- Assist with leasing activities, applicant intake, waitlist administration, and resident file management.
- Prepare leasing documents, resident correspondence, notices, newsletters, and general communications.
- Support annual and interim recertifications by gathering and organizing required documentation.
- Maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems in accordance with agency requirements.
- Coordinate appointments, meetings, calendars, and resident communications.
- Enter and track work orders and provide administrative support to property management operations.
- Assist with procurement documentation, reports, and other administrative projects.
- Coordinate resident meetings and community activities as assigned.
- Serve as the administrative liaison to the Resident Council by supporting meeting coordination, communications, records management, and administrative functions while respecting the Council's independent governance.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident, applicant, and Housing Commission information.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Michigan driver's license.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe PDF, and general office software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while following established policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with residents, applicants, staff, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Office administration
- Leasing
- Property management
- Public Housing
- RAD PBRA
- Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher
- LIHTC or affordable housing
- HUD or other compliance-driven programs
- Compliance documentation, recertifications, or regulated recordkeeping
- Customer service in a professional office environment
