Job Title: Night CNC Machinist
Job Description
This role as a CNC Machinist position responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting various CNC machines to produce precision components for the automotive, aerospace, and medical industries. You will work with tight tolerances, perform quality checks, and ensure that each part meets stringent specifications while operating in a dynamic machine shop environment.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate various CNC machines, including boring mills, standard 3-axis and 5-axis mills, and lathes, based on production needs.
Prepare CNC equipment by installing and changing out tools as necessary for each job.
Secure and position metal workpieces correctly before running parts.
Machine precision parts for automotive, aerospace, and medical applications while maintaining tight tolerances.
Perform in-process and final quality checks on completed parts using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools.
Edit CNC programs as needed to optimize performance and ensure parts meet specifications.
Select appropriate tooling for each job and verify proper tool setup.
Operate and understand Fanuc and other CNC controls to run and adjust programs.
Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements.
Zero out X, Y, and Z axes before starting new jobs to ensure accurate setups.
Perform tool touch-offs and set proper tooling height from the X, Y, and Z axes.
Work safely around large equipment, overhead cranes, and material handling devices.
Maintain a clean and organized work area despite grease, dirt, and general machine shop conditions.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to troubleshoot issues and improve processes.
Essential Skills
Minimum 5 years of experience setting up and editing programs on a boring mill or 3-axis/5-axis mill.
Proficiency in making programming edits using Visi, Work NC, or Mastercam.
Experience working with Fanuc controls or similar CNC control systems.
Strong ability to set up CNC machines, including tool changes and workpiece setup.
Demonstrated experience operating boring mills, horizontal boring mills, and horizontal CNC machines.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
Ability to zero out X, Y, and Z axes and perform accurate tool touch-offs.
Hands-on CNC machining experience in a production environment.
Comfort working with tight tolerances and performing detailed quality checks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience machining parts for automotive, aerospace, and medical industries.
Familiarity with VISI software and other CAD/CAM tools.
Background using overhead cranes and other material handling equipment in a machine shop.
Experience working on night shifts or in extended-hour manufacturing environments.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adapt to different CNC machine types and configurations.

Work Environment
This position is on the night shift, working Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with initial training provided on the first shift (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) for up to three months until you are comfortable with processes and equipment. The role is based in a traditional machine shop environment with exposure to grease, dirt, and heavy industrial conditions. You will work around large CNC equipment, overhead cranes, and other material handling machinery, requiring consistent attention to safety and proper use of tools and equipment. The setting emphasizes practical, durable attire suitable for a hands-on machining and manufacturing environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wayland, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
