This role closely mirrors an applications engineering position but with a strong emphasis on aftermarket projects, customer interaction, and sales support. The engineer reviews customer and sales requests, performs design calculations as needed, prepares cost estimates, and generates accurate quotations that align with company goals, standards, applicable codes, and customer specifications. This position offers strong training, significant autonomy, and an excellent opportunity for a mechanically inclined engineer to expand their experience in sales and applications engineering.
Responsibilities
Work directly with customers, direct sales, and sales representatives to discuss, refine, and ultimately sell relines, rebuilds, and upgrades to existing equipment.
Review equipment specifications and customer requirements with customers and sales staff to develop accurate, competitive proposals and quotes.
Prepare budgetary pricing and abbreviated proposals when requested to help qualify projects before committing resources to detailed proposals with firm pricing.
Generate detailed and accurate quotations and proposals, including lead times, to support customer purchasing decisions.
Create and maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date proposal templates for aftermarket offerings.
Determine accurate project costs and set appropriate selling prices based on company margin goals or as directed by leadership.
Review quoted and shipped job margins and provide detailed financial analysis on variances when requested.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and other internal teams to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions related to aftermarket projects.
Work with personnel in marketing, legal, engineering, and other departments to provide clear and accurate technical information for proposals and customer communications.
Process purchase orders in the ERP system (currently AS400/BPCS) and in Salesforce, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Participate in meetings, seminars, trade shows, and training sessions to stay informed about new developments, technologies, and components relevant to the product line.
Occasionally travel to customer sites to review applications, assess equipment, or meet with local sales representatives and sales staff to discuss projects with customers.
For projects managed directly without an outside sales representative or direct salesperson, follow up with customers to confirm receipt of proposals, address questions or concerns, and actively sell the proposed equipment while meeting company standards, applicable codes, and customer specifications.
Ensure all proposals and projects conform to relevant codes, company standards, and internal requirements for quality, profitability, and manufacturability.
Stay current on industry developments, new parts, and improved methods to enhance products and product designs in the aftermarket space.
Comply with all housekeeping procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations in the office and when visiting customer sites.
Manage assigned projects and timelines from initial request through completion, ensuring on-time delivery of proposals and support.
Read, interpret, and apply mechanical and electrical engineering schematics to develop accurate technical solutions and proposals.

Ability to read, write, and interpret engineering schematics, including both mechanical and electrical drawings.
Demonstrated project management experience, including managing individual projects and timelines through completion.

Experience working directly with customers in a technical or engineering capacity.
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for customer visits, meetings, and trade events.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, supported by professional references.
Ability to perform design calculations as necessary to support quotations and proposals.
Strong skills in preparing cost estimates, quotations, and technical proposals.
Competence in using ERP platforms such as AS400/BPCS and CRM tools such as Salesforce for order processing and opportunity management.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with sales, engineering, production, marketing, and legal teams.
Ability to ensure compliance with company standards, applicable codes, and customer specifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience creating customer quotes and proposals for technical or engineered products.
Specific experience using AS400/BPCS ERP systems.
Specific experience using Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
Familiarity with industrial and laboratory ovens, furnaces, or environmental test chambers is beneficial.
Interest in expanding from a traditional engineering role into sales and applications engineering.
Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate proposal templates and documentation.
Motivation to stay current with new industry developments, technologies, and components.
Desire for a role that offers autonomy, responsibility, and exposure to both engineering and commercial aspects of projects.
Access to Udemy learning resources after six months of employment supports ongoing professional development.
Work Environment
The engineer works on a collaborative team of approximately ten individuals split between sales and applications, fostering close interaction between technical and commercial functions. When not traveling, the role is primarily office-based, with a typical work week of about 45 hours. The position reports into the aftermarket leadership structure and involves regular coordination with engineering, production, marketing, legal, and other internal departments. Travel, up to approximately 20%, is supported and paid for using a company card, and typically involves visiting customer sites, attending meetings, and participating in trade shows or training sessions. The organization designs and manufactures industrial and laboratory ovens and furnaces, as well as environmental temperature cycling and stability test chambers, so the work environment centers on engineered thermal and environmental testing solutions.
