Position Summary

The Assistant Head Men's Basketball Coach must demonstrate Delta College Athletics' five core values: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Leadership. This position promotes student success through academics while helping student-athletes develop personally, academically, and athletically. The Assistant Head Coach serves as a mentor, role model, and leader while assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a successful NJCAA basketball program.

- Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes and the College.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Head Coach assists the Head Coach in all aspects of the basketball program, including but not limited to:
- Assist in developing the program philosophy, skill development, and coaching techniques.
- Support team expectations related to accountability, discipline, and collaboration.
- Recruit academically prepared student-athletes while maintaining NJCAA and MCCAA compliance.
- Assist with off-season programming.
- Promote academic success through collaboration with the Athletic Director, Student Success Advisor, Counselors, and Teaching/Learning Center.
- Uphold all coach and student-athlete codes of conduct.
- Assist with fundraising efforts.
- Assist in scheduling contests and coordinating officials, travel, lodging, meals, and event management.
- Assist in developing practice schedules and facility needs.
- Assist with student-athlete eligibility requirements.
- Help manage equipment inventories and purchasing recommendations.
- Assist in maintaining travel records.
- Attend all scheduled practices and competitions.
- Travel with the team.
- Maintain clean and organized locker rooms and athletic facilities.
- Mentor student-athletes in academics, leadership, responsibility, and personal development.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and eligibility.
- Enforce study hall requirements when applicable.
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Trainer regarding injuries and emergency procedures.
- Assist in developing and enforcing team rules.
- Assist in managing program budgets and fundraising activities.
- Submit recruiting, camp, clinic, and fundraising proposals.
- Assist with annual budget planning.
- Promote Delta College positively throughout the community.
- Assist with marketing efforts by providing news and website updates.
- Help student-athletes pursue opportunities at four-year institutions.
- Maintain relationships with media, conference officials, and local high school coaches.
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of coaching experience at the high school level or higher.
- Valid Driver's License with ability to transport student-athletes following successful background review.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Maintain a college-acceptable driving record.
- Comply with drug-free workplace policies.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Availability for travel related to practices, competitions, and recruiting.
- Availability for evening practice schedules.
- Ability to effectively work with diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated professionalism and positive workplace attitude.
Additional Experiences Considered
- Associate's Degree.
- Working knowledge of MCCAA and NJCAA rules and regulations.
- 3–5 years of related coaching experience.
