Our client, a full service Accounting firm in Troy, MI is looking to a hire a Staff Accountant for their expanding firm. The Staff Accountant will play a vital role in supporting the accounting, tax and audit functions of the firm. The Staff Accountant will handle both monthly accounting and tax returns while working closely with multiple clients and team members to deliver high-quality service and ensure compliance with all standards and regulations.
This is a direct hire opportunity with an annual salary range between $50,000 - $68,000 based on experience.
Staff Accountant Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
o Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closings to ensure financial data accuracy.
o Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts (cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals, etc.).
o Record journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses, and depreciation.
o Assist in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules for management or auditors.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
o Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
o Manage vendor communications and resolve payment discrepancies.
o Assist with client billing, ensure timely and accurate invoicing, and follow up on outstanding receivables.
General Ledger Maintenance
o Record and maintain accurate financial transactions in the general ledger.
o Verify data accuracy and ensure supporting documentation is properly maintained.
o Prepare and post month-end adjustments, including accruals and prepayments.
Budgeting & Forecasting Support
o Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts by gathering and analyzing financial data.
o Perform variance analyses and provide insights on budget-to-actual differences.
Tax Compliance & Support
o Assist with preparation of tax filings (sales, income, and payroll).
o Organize and maintain documentation for tax audits and filings.
o Research tax regulations and support compliance initiatives.
Internal Controls & Audit Support
o Support adherence to internal controls and company policies.
o Prepare documents and schedules requested for internal or external audits.
Staff Accountant Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is desired but not required
3+ years in public accounting, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Experience with accounting software, tax software and Excel skills.
