Mecosta County Parks is searching for a Grounds/Maintenance worker for our Paris Park in Paris, Michigan. This candidate performs a variety of tasks to maintain ground and facilities throughout the park in a manicured, opertional, and safe condition for the use by the general public. This position must be able to assist in and know the Day Ranger and/or Night Ranger positions. This park employee should report any situations that may require attention such as speeding, noise, complaints, malfunctioning equipment, damaged or missing park property to the Park Manager or Office Manager.
A standard workweek consists of up to forty hours per weeek, four to five days per week, with two to three days off per week. The work schedule is determined by the Park Manager or Office Manager. Due to the nature of the job, employees are expectyed to work weekends and holidays. Employees shall report to work on time and stay on duty for their entire shift. However, the employee may be sent home during slow business periods or inclement weather. Additional hours may be required of the employee due to unusual circumstances such as emergencies, employee absenteeism, exceptional park usage and so on.
Applicant must be 18 years old or older and be a self-motivator demonstrating good customer service and communication skills. Applicant should have knowledge and be capable of performing basic to moderate maintenance and landscaping duties. Applicant must have the ability to stand for extended periods (6-8 hours) and be agreeable to working in all outdoor weather conditions including heat, humidity, rain, cold, dark, and environments with insects and wildlife presence.
Applicant must be able to obtain a Chaffeur's License to assist with the tubing operation. Paris Park offers transportation of tubes to the Muskegon for the public to enjoy floating down the river.
Typical/Essential Duties:
- Operates and performs basic preventative maintenance on park equipment including riding mowers, push mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, tractors, and utility vehicles, in accordance with safety procedures.
- Mows and trims grass, trees, and shrubs using hand and power tools, hand and riding mowers; seed and fertilizes grass areas; and weeds garden areas.
- Rakes and hauls leaves using rakes and leaf blowers, moves dirt and rocks as instructed.
- Clears brush and dead trees, and sets new trees as specified using ladders and chain saws.
- Cleans shelters, restrooms, and other parks and building facilities, replenishes supplies, makes minor repairs, and mops as necessary.
- Remove litter and debris from facilities and public areas and empties trash containers, using utility vehicles and equipment.
- Provides additional trash barrels, picnic tables, grills, and recreation equipment.
- Assists in the construction, maintenance, repair,painting, and/or restoration of signs, footbridges, trails, parking barriers, picnic tables, grills, wooden equipment and structures, park and facility projects and equipment.
- Uses power tools such as skill saws, chain saws, drills, and sprayers.
- Provides minor maintenance to county motorized vehicles and equipment such as grease jobs, oil and filter changes, and minor parts replacement.
- Repairs and maintains recreation and playground equipment.
- Maintains awareness of surroundings for guests safety and reports any concerns to management.
- Maintains proper uniform and appearance standards.
- Resolves guest concerns calmly and professionally.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned by management.
