Job Description
The Role:
General Motors is transforming how it operates through data - and the Analytics and Health Management team is at the center of that transformation. Our mission is to deliver analytics solutions that empower the organization to make data-driven decisions, providing the right information at the right time to leaders and engineers across Embedded Controls and the broader Software & Services organization.
We are looking for an Engineering Group Manager (EGM) to lead a multi-disciplinary team of Data Analysts, AI/ML Scientists, and Feature Engineers. This leader will guide the development and deployment of analytics products - dashboards, data pipelines, AI/ML models, and strategic decision-support tools - that directly enable operational efficiency and data-driven decision making across GM's embedded controls programs.
What You'll do:
People Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop a diverse team spanning Data Analysts, AI/ML Scientists, Data Engineers, and Business Strategists
Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture grounded in GM's Winning Behaviors and Values
Own performance management, career development, staffing, and succession planning for direct reports
Serve as a champion and advocate for your team's work and impact across organizational boundaries
Analytics Product Delivery
Oversee the end-to-end delivery of analytics products - from requirements definition through deployment and ongoing maintenance
Guide the team in building dashboards, data pipelines, and analytical tools using Power BI, Databricks, Spark, Python, SQL, and cloud-native platforms (Azure, GCP)
Ensure data solutions are accurate, scalable, and accessible, enabling a single version of truth across the organization
Partner with stakeholders to translate ambiguous business needs into concrete analytics deliverables
AI/ML & Data Engineering Strategy
Enable and support the team's AI/ML and data engineering capabilities, including model development, MLOps practices, and cloud-scale data pipelines
Drive adoption of modern data practices - medallion architecture, Delta Lake, streaming pipelines, and automated workflows
Identify opportunities to apply advanced analytics and AI/ML to business problems across portfolio planning, issue management, vehicle telematics, and program execution
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Influence
Build and maintain strong relationships with business partners across Embedded Controls, Software & Services, and broader GM organizations
Partner with your team to identify opportunities for analytics solutions and data-driven process improvements
Represent the organization in cross-functional forums, leadership reviews, and strategic planning discussions
Communicate team progress, priorities, and impacts clearly to leadership at all levels
Change Leadership
Champion a data-first culture within GM, influencing how teams consume and act on data insights
Drive continuous improvement in how the team operates - prioritization, backlog management, and delivery practices
Support the team through growth and organizational change, helping members navigate evolving priorities
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor of Science in Engineering to include Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 7+ years of engineering experience related to embedded control systems, data analytics, related hardware, and/or safety critical system development

Excellent multi-functional communication and leadership skills - able to get multiple teams moving in the same direction and represent the organization in high level forums
Demonstrated ability to make decisions regarding safety critical systems
Working knowledge of the software development and delivery process, including design, coding, testing, calibration, and deployment of embedded content
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
Master of Science in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Leadership experience of teams of engineers including data analysts, data engineers, and AI/ML practitioners
Familiarity with MLOps practices - model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management
Experience in automotive or manufacturing domains, particularly with vehicle telematics, warranty analytics, or quality/issue management data
Experience in working in an Agile development framework
Leadership of teams of engineers responsible for developing or testing embedded control systems or related hardware
Working knowledge of embedded controls development tool set - (e.g. IBM Rational Tool Suite, Jira/Jira Align, Git ecosystem)
