Building Custodian (Day Shift) - Hiawatha Elementary
Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Building Custodian to join our team at Hiawatha Elementary. This full-time position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing high-quality custodial services during the day shift.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and common areas to ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Empty trash receptacles and recycle bins, ensuring proper disposal of waste.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring supplies are stocked and areas are well-maintained.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of furniture for school events and activities.
- Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all.
- Assist grounds and maintenance with seasonal snow removal as needed.
- Work collaboratively with school staff and administration to address cleaning needs and special requests.
- Maintain custodial equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working condition and properly stored.
- Adhere to all school policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and standard custodial procedures.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and follow established safety procedures.
- Basic computer and technology skills, including the ability to access and process electronic work orders through the districts work ticket/work order system.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Ability to pass background checks and comply with school district regulations.
Shift and Compensation
- Regular Working Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
- 52 weeks/year round assignment
- Hours will be adjusted to accommodate departmental and building priorities.
- Salary Classification C: $17.72 - 19.27 per hour, commensurate with experience
