Meridian Senior Center Program Assistant (through EduStaff)

This position is employed through EDUStaff, a third-party educational staffing provider, and assigned to support the Senior Center in partnership with the Township and School District.
Summary
Serves as the first point of contact for members and guests while supporting daily Senior Center operations. This role provides administrative, program, and customer service support, and contributes to marketing, events, and community engagement. Acts as a welcoming ambassador for the Senior Center and an advocate for older adults.
This position supports a collaborative partnership between Meridian Township and Okemos Public School District.

Responsibilities
- Act as first contact (receptionist) for guests and members
- Assist members with checking in at kiosk
- Provide guests and new/potential members with application process and Center tours
- Provide guests and members with community resources as requested
- Answer phones and return messages
- Assist with Senior Center marketing (e-blasts, Facebook, flyers)
- Maintain Senior Center Weebly account
- Maintain accurate membership data in ARUX and MySeniorCenter databases
- Assist with bookkeeping, records, data entry, and filing
- Process payments in ARUX
- Create spreadsheets for classes
- Format and help edit Senior Center newsletter (Canva)
- Create flyers and sign-up sheets for events (Canva)
- Schedule weekly reminder emails for events/appointments
- Schedule appointments for integrative health therapies
- Assist with Advisory Board meeting preparations
- Create and type various office forms
- Assist with special events (including evenings/weekends)
- Set up for presenters as needed
- Act as Kitchen Lead during congregate meals/special events
- Keep storage room organized and order lunch supplies
- Provide volunteer training as needed
- Sub for Senior Center Coordinator as needed
- Maintain facilities and equipment
- Act as an ambassador and advocate for older adults and the Senior Center
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail) or similar office software
- Ability to quickly learn and effectively use systems such as MySeniorCenter, ARUX, Canva, and Weebly
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with older adults, staff and community members
- Demonstrated customer service skills, including patience, professionalism, and problem-solving
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend and move throughout the facility on a regular basis
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time while performing administrative tasks
- Ability to perform repetitive wrist and hand motions (e.g., typing, data entry)
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to assist with room set up, including arranging tables, chairs, and event materials
Work Schedule/Compensation
- Hourly rate: $17.61 - $18.00 commensurate with relative experience
- Up to 30 hours per week; schedule may vary based on programming and operational needs
- Typical hours are Monday - Friday between 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
- Scheduled off during Spring Breaks, Winter Breaks, major holidays, and occasional building closures
- Availability to support occasional evening and weekend events, as needed
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Additional education or relevant coursework, preferred but not required
- CPR and First Aid certification required, or willingness to obtain (cost covered by employer)
- Previous administrative or office support experience, highly desirable
- Experience working with older adults or in a community-based setting, highly desirable
