Summary of Duties: Responsible for identifying and understanding technical solutions for current and future customer applications based on changes in legislation and market/customer requirements to ensure Umicore has a timely competitive offering. Responsible for identifying unique or compelling value in Umicore technologies that may meet customer or legislative needs and effectively presenting such technologies to the customer. Serves as a leading technical expert in the field, and is responsible for heading customer technical discussions and influencing technical directions of the customer where appropriate. Responsible for management of technologies in the customer's validation process. Responsible for coordination of the Umicore AC PIP process for the product until PPAP is signed. Ensures that the work performed in their area of responsibility meets the requirements of the ISO/TS16949, ISO14001, QS9000 (VDA6 quality assurance system and promotes the continued application of the TQM process within his/her team. Responsible for effective communication of customer and competitor information and status within AC. Develops technical strategies and input for the five-year IBP budget plan for the customers related activities, including AT component and system testing, catalyst development know-how, and personnel needs. Responsible for understanding market IP position and long-term technical competitiveness (10-15yrs) and assures IP protection is supported via the R&D group. Responsible for identification and management of testing resources required to deliver technical solutions to the customers. Responsible for the life cycle of the products: During gestation until PPAP, during production life until start of service part by adjusting specification to solve recurring problems and support operations and sales managing product profitability. Responsible for optimizing the productivity and efficiency of the test programs (budget used vs. potential size of business). Provides a strategic customer interface with the technical community to position Umicore and to gain insight into their current and future product and emission system needs and planning. This includes a clear understanding of how to merge customer expectations to Umicore deliverables. Improves Umicore’s technology image through active participation and presentations in industry and government meetings as well as scientific and technical events. Understands the technology aspects necessary to satisfy the newly formed legislation throughout the globe, especially as it applies to a customer with Global reach into various regions and countries. Gives technical input to the Senior Team Manager PA & CS by Budget planning and execution of the concluded strategy and responsibility for system development projects with project milestones and within approved GTT budget as documented in the IBP. Manages a team made up of both PM PA engineer/manager providing focused leadership, vision, technical expertise and customer insight. Leads activities targeting customer programs or applications including strengthening team through development efforts, recruiting and motivating team members from other regions all aligned with Umicore policy and performance mandates.
Qualifications: Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (any) or a related field of study AND Five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation in which the required experience was gained. Must also have demonstrated experience with: Catalyst and AT functions; Engine calibration; Product Design and Product Application for Automotive Catalysts; Understanding of the commercial, technical, operational and financial elements of automotive catalysts; Planisware system for testing plan and budgeting; APQP (Advanced Protocol Quality Planning) structured process for product design and development; Automotive emission legislation requirements for North America; and DoE methodology.
This position does not require any domestic or international travel. The role allows work to be performed on a hybrid schedule; at least 3 days in office and up to 2 days remote/telecommute per week.
