Job Summary
Dorsey College is seeking an experienced Obstetric Practical Nursing Instructor (Part Time/Adjunct) to join its instructional team in Saginaw, Michigan.
The Obstetric (OB) Instructor is entrusted with providing quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction while preparing Practical Nursing students for successful careers in healthcare. This position is responsible for delivering engaging instruction, evaluating student performance, fostering student success, and ensuring all educational activities are conducted in accordance with Dorsey College policies and applicable regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Nurse with a strong background in obstetrics who is passionate about mentoring students and sharing real-world nursing experience in a supportive learning environment.
Essential Functions
Instruction and Student Success
- Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction based on approved course outlines and instructional materials.
- Assess student learning using appropriate evaluation methods.
- Conduct engaging classroom lectures and laboratory instruction.
- Motivate students through active participation and supportive instruction.
- Advise students regarding attendance, grades, academic progress, and course completion.
- Contact absent students by text, email, or telephone as needed to improve retention.
- Facilitate all courses within the curriculum when necessary, except Pediatrics unless appropriately experienced.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement through student success, retention, attendance, instructor evaluations, and final examination outcomes.
Classroom and Laboratory Management
- Maintain a professional classroom environment in accordance with campus policies regarding attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and student conduct.
- Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources prior to each class.
- Monitor classroom supplies and equipment to ensure readiness before instruction.
- Notify appropriate campus personnel when equipment or facilities require attention.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in-service meetings. Attendance at commencement is strongly encouraged.
- Maintain professional growth through continuing education, professional organizations, educational research, seminars, conventions, and related industry experience.
- Support campus departments including Financial Aid, Admissions, and Career Services.
- Maintain employer relationships through annual contact with healthcare employers.
- Conduct all educational activities in a legal, ethical, and professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Experience in Obstetrics required, including Labor and Delivery, Women's Health, Nurse Practitioner, or comparable clinical experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required or actively pursuing a BSN in accordance with Michigan Board of Nursing requirements.
- One year of documented experience related to the course taught preferred.
Working and Physical Demands
- Evening and occasional weekend hours may be required to support business needs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, patients, and healthcare professionals.
- Sufficient manual dexterity to operate computers, telephones, and standard office equipment.
