The SBU Driver Mechanic performs vehicle mechanical work beginning with basic assembly and/or removal of parts, minor repairs such as replacing fuel systems, unit connections and other components.
Duties increase with time and experience on the job. Most advanced work may include fabricating experimental parts and test fixtures and working from blueprints/drawings. Other responsibilities include driving test vehicles at various speeds on varying road conditions.
Weekend overtime is required for this position.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
1 year in Automotive experience
Basic knowledge of mathematics, reading and writing
Organizational skills
Mechanical skills and knowledge of mechanical systems
Welding Experience
Troubleshooting skills
Ability to use and understand computerized diagnostic equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree
Apprenticeship or internship in automotive mechanics
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified
Specialty certifications
