Job Summary
The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual and/or CNC machines to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires strong blueprint reading skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain tight tolerances in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other machine shop equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials
- Machine parts to precise tolerances (±.0005” or as specified)
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring instruments
- Make machine offsets and program adjustments as needed
- Deburr and finish machined components to required specifications
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of machining experience (manual, CNC, or combination)
- Strong blueprint reading and measuring skills
- Experience holding tight tolerances
- Working knowledge of machining metals such as tool steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Skills
- CNC programming experience (G-code, conversational programming, or CAM software)
- Experience with multi-axis machining
- Familiarity with tool and die components
- Experience in a high-precision or production manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work in a machine shop environment (noise, coolant, temperature variation)
