Job Title: Operations Supervisor - 2nd Shift
Job Description
This 2nd shift Operations Supervisor role oversees the hummus production area while driving operational efficiency and continuous improvement across the facility. You will lead a large, primarily contract-based workforce, manage production performance through key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations in a refrigerated food and beverage environment. Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day operations of the hummus room and related production activities during 2nd shift.
Organize and schedule production to meet hourly and daily case targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs), including efficiency levels and labor productivity, and implement corrective actions when targets are not met.
Identify operational problems, analyze root causes, and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and throughput.
Lead a team of 35+ employees, including a workforce that is approximately 70% contract labor, ensuring effective supervision and clear communication of expectations.
Hire, terminate, and manage both contracted and direct labor in partnership with HR, following established policies and procedures.
Handle attendance issues, turnover, and escalations by coaching employees, addressing performance concerns, and maintaining appropriate documentation.
Mentor, coach, and develop production staff and shift leads to build a high-performing, safety-focused, and accountable team.
Manage labor efficiency and compliance by tracking and analyzing KPIs, adjusting staffing, and reorganizing resources to meet production needs.
Communicate production needs, priorities, and changes to shift leads and other stakeholders to ensure alignment across operations.
Oversee completion and accuracy of payroll and timesheets for the team, ensuring proper recording of hours worked.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and compliance with food safety and facility guidelines.
Handle injury reporting, incident documentation, write-ups, and corrective action forms, including defining and following up on action items.
Collaborate with maintenance teams to address equipment issues, support troubleshooting, and minimize downtime.
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and ERP/SAP systems to track production data, labor metrics, and performance trends.
Participate in and lead continuous improvement efforts, including lean manufacturing practices, to optimize processes and reduce waste.
Support training of new employees and cross-training of existing staff to ensure coverage and flexibility across production areas.
Attend and lead pre- and post-shift meetings to review performance, communicate updates, and align on daily goals.
Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements within the production environment.
Essential Skills
At least 5+ years of operations supervision experience in a non-union manufacturing environment, with responsibility for 35+ direct reports.
Proven ability to understand all areas of manufacturing, including materials, maintenance, people, and machinery, and to anticipate and resolve operational issues.
Demonstrated experience managing a workforce with a high percentage of contract labor, including addressing attendance challenges and turnover.
Strong capability to manage labor efficiency and compliance by monitoring and acting on KPIs.
Proven track record of identifying operational problems, implementing changes, and clearly explaining how those changes improved efficiency and performance.
Experience overseeing hiring, termination, and performance management of both contracted and direct labor in collaboration with HR.
Ability to handle attendance issues, turnover, and escalations, including conducting write-ups, terminations, and corrective actions.
Experience with injury reporting, incident documentation, and developing action items to address safety or performance concerns.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for tracking production, labor, and performance data.
Experience using ERP or SAP systems for tracking production metrics and reporting (SAP experience is a strong plus).
Experience in production, operations management, plant operations, and production supervision.
Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to mentor, coach, and develop production teams.
Demonstrated management skills, including conflict resolution, communication, and team leadership.
Comfort working in a food and beverage manufacturing environment, including adherence to PPE requirements and working in cold, refrigerated areas.
Ability to work 2nd shift hours (approximately 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.) and a 45-50 hour workweek, including occasional Saturdays based on production demand.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Understanding of industrial maintenance concepts, including how equipment operates and how to proactively partner with maintenance when machinery is not running correctly.
Experience collaborating closely with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing tools and continuous improvement frameworks.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree, which supports continued upward mobility within the organization.
Comfort working in a refrigerated food production environment and consistently wearing appropriate PPE such as lab coats, hair nets, and beard nets.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Ability to communicate clearly with shift leads, production staff, and cross-functional partners.
Experience leading or participating in shift meetings and performance reviews.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday with 9-hour days, totaling approximately 45-50 hours per week, and occasional Saturday work based on production demand.
