The hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, 3 are dedicated to Robotics.
Job Summary:
The Intraoperative Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) delivers comprehensive surgical support across all service lines, including robotic-assisted procedures. This role functions as an integral member of the operating room team, providing expert intraoperative care, adapting to a wide variety of surgical specialties, and ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality procedural outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as first or second assist across all surgical specialties, including open, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted procedures
Provide robotic support, including docking/undocking assistance, instrument exchange, and troubleshooting in collaboration with the surgical team
Perform surgical assisting tasks such as tissue handling, retraction, exposure, suturing, hemostasis, and wound closure
Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique and perioperative safety protocols
Perform intraoperative procedures within scope (e.g., line placement, device insertion, graft harvesting where applicable)
Rapidly adapt to varying surgeon preferences, procedures, and technologies across service lines
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff to optimize workflow, case progression, and turnaround times
Anticipate operative needs and ensure appropriate instruments, supplies, and robotic equipment readiness
Assist with patient positioning, site verification, and surgical time-out processes
Recognize and respond to intraoperative changes in patient condition in coordination with anesthesia
Ensure accurate intraoperative documentation and compliance with regulatory and quality standards
Support OR efficiency initiatives, including throughput and schedule adherence
Preop/PACU order entry
Postoperative rounding as requested
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education:
NP Education : Master's degree in clinical nursing from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program with emphasis on area of certification/licensure.
PA Education: Requires graduation from an ARC-PA accredited PA program.
Certification/Licensure:
NP Certification/Licensure : Current Registered Nurse and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Michigan.
PA Certification/Licensure : Current License/Certification as Physician Assistant with the State of Michigan.
Experience:
Surgical Scrub experience is strongly preferred.
